Getting started
- Install ZevRecords from the Chrome Web Store.
- On install, a setup tab opens. Grant microphone access so your voice is included in recordings.
- Join a Google Meet call, open the ZevRecords side panel, and click Start recording.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my recordings saved?
Every recording is saved as a .webm file in your browser's Downloads folder. They are also listed in the side panel's Library, where you can open a file or reveal it in your file manager. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Why do I have to click the toolbar icon before recording?
Chrome only allows a tab to be captured after a real click on the extension's toolbar icon, or its keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+R. This is a Chrome security rule, not a ZevRecords setting. Clicking Start inside the side panel is not enough the very first time. After that one click, recording and auto-start work for the rest of that tab's life.
It still says REC after my meeting ended. What do I do?
ZevRecords stops automatically when the call ends and saves the file. If the badge appears stuck, open the side panel and click Stop, or close the Meet tab. The recording up to that point is saved to Downloads.
Does ZevRecords record my microphone?
Yes, if you grant microphone permission during setup. Your mic is mixed with the meeting audio into a single recording. You can pick a specific microphone, or the system default, in the side panel.
Are other participants told that I am recording?
No. Google Meet does not show its own recording banner for this capture method, so please announce that you are recording before you start. Recording may be subject to your organisation's policies and local law.
How much disk space does a recording use?
Roughly 0.5 to 1 GB per hour at 1080p. You can lower the quality to 480p or 720p in the side panel to use less space.
Does ZevRecords work in browsers other than Chrome?
ZevRecords is built for Google Chrome, version 116 or newer, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Other Chromium-based browsers are not officially supported.
Do you collect any of my data?
No. ZevRecords has no server, no analytics and no account. Your recordings and settings stay on your own computer.
